Outsider Inside a Solo Exhibit by Temo Perez is on display now through February 16 in the Perrysburg Municipal Building, 201 W. Indiana Ave. Viewing hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Temo Perez is an Outsider Artist (self taught) who has dedicated himself to making art since he was a child growing up in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He has successfully cultivated his natural talent by balancing what he regards as a gift with a quest for studying art and artists for developmental inspiration. In addition to painting Temo sculpts in stone and wood drawing much of his inspiration from ancient Aztec culture.
The twenty-two paintings on exhibit at the Perrysburg Municipal Building are defined by a distinct visceral quality. Mr. Perez describes his process by saying, ” I look inward and allow whatever is there to emerge and express itself”. He describes his meditative state of mind when he paints as a “zone”.
The result of his process is evident in his oil painting, Malala 2. Malala is the Pakistani girl who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban for going to school. The painting captures the strong, but innocent essence of the young girl who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize. There are trajectory lines and other meaningful clues about who she is that meld into the painting as creative surface decoration illustrating Temo’s artful process of expressing his regard for his subject.
Please contact Main Art-ery if you have any questions or would like to purchase a painting in the exhibition.
